THE PEARL
Performance in Tjarnarbíó at Kynleikar exhibition.
The artist stood on a stage in a Venus like position, refering to The Birth of Venus by Boticelli. When all eyes had set on her, she started to sew a pearl where the clitoris is placed and recited the words below:
“Who the hell got the idea of calling this wonderful organ which makes me orgasm a CLITORIS? We are talking about a organ with 8000 thousand nerve endings that connects through my whole body. It makes my toes twitch and my eyes lure out of excitement. The clitoris is the equalent to the head of the penis. In Iceland the head is called the King. I don't know who named it the king but I can imagine in what mindset that person was in. He was quite clear what his organ does and therefore gave the head its royal position. You could call the clitoris the queen. But I think the uterus is the queen and the clitoris is the nervecrown surrounding the holy gate. What I want to call the clitoris is a pearl. As I touch the pearl, fluids start going, and the flow speaks to my nature. I follow the flood and the tide. I find the strength in allowing myself to listen and feel, allowing myself to enjoy. Because I deserve to enjoy the pleasures of my own body. From now I will never call my organ a clitoris. I will call it the Pearl.“
